Our Intro

Introduction

Finetech Engineering is a manufacturer, supplier, and exporter of precision specimen cutters and test specimen moulds for the plastic, rubber, and paper testing industries. Accurate test results start with accurate specimen preparation — and that starts with the cutting die. If a specimen is even slightly off-dimension, the tensile, tear, or impact test data your lab produces becomes unreliable, and your QC reports become questionable.

Every specimen cutter we manufacture is made from hardened tool steel (50–56 HRC) with precision-ground cutting edges, designed to produce clean, burr-free specimens that conform exactly to the dimensional tolerances specified in ASTM, ISO, and IS standards. We manufacture the full range — dumbbell (dogbone) cutters, tear cutters, crescent cutters, round cutters, rectangular strip cutters, and compression set moulds — all in-house at our Thane, Maharashtra facility.

Unlike traders who resell imported dies, Finetech Engineering controls the entire manufacturing process from raw material to final dimensional inspection. This means we can offer NABL-traceable certification for every cutter, custom sizes to your exact drawing, and re-sharpening services to extend cutter life. Our cutters are trusted by QC labs, R&D departments, and testing houses across India.

Why us

Why Choose Finetech Engineering for Specimen Cutters & Moulds?

At Finetech Engineering, our specimen cutters and moulds are built based on actual usage needs — not just drawings. We focus on tools that work reliably in everyday conditions and make your job easier.

We manufacture — we don’t trade

Every cutter and mould is made at our Thane facility. We control quality from raw material to final inspection. No imported reselling, no middlemen.

NABL certification available

We provide NABL-traceable dimensional certification for specimen cutters — essential for NABL-accredited labs, government tenders (GeM portal), and export-facing manufacturers who need documented proof of dimensional conformity.

Complete range under one roof

Dumbbell, tear, crescent, round, rectangular, notch cutters — plus all testing moulds. One supplier for all your specimen preparation needs. No need to source cutters from one vendor and moulds from another.

Custom manufacturing

Non-standard size? Client-specific drawing? International standard we haven’t listed? We manufacture custom cutters and moulds to your exact requirements.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A specimen cutter (also called a sample cutter or cutting die) is a precision tool used to cut standardised test specimens from sheets of plastic, rubber, paper, or other materials. The specimen shape and dimensions must match the exact requirements of the relevant testing standard (ASTM, ISO, IS) to ensure valid test results. Common specimen shapes include dumbbell (dogbone), tear, crescent, round, and rectangular strips.
Our specimen cutters are manufactured to comply with ASTM D412 (rubber tensile), ASTM D638 (plastic tensile), ASTM D624 (tear strength), ISO 37 (rubber tensile), ISO 34-1 (tear strength), IS 3400 (Indian standard for rubber testing), ASTM D256 and ISO 179/180 (impact testing notch cutters), and many more. We also manufacture cutters to custom dimensions for non-standard requirements.
A specimen cutter is a die-cutting tool that punches a test specimen out of a flat sheet of material (like a cookie cutter). A specimen mould is a cavity tool used with a press to shape raw material (usually rubber compounds) into a specific form under heat and pressure — for example, a compression set button or a vulcanised flat sheet. Most labs need both: moulds to prepare sheets and buttons, and cutters to cut specific specimen shapes from those sheets.
Yes. Finetech Engineering offers NABL-traceable dimensional certification for specimen cutters. This verifies that the cutting die conforms to the exact dimensional tolerances specified in the relevant standard. This is increasingly required by NABL-accredited laboratories, participants in government tenders (GeM portal), and export-oriented manufacturers.
Yes. If your testing standard requires a non-standard specimen size, or if you have a client-specific drawing, we manufacture custom specimen cutters and moulds to your exact dimensions and specifications. Contact us with your requirements.
Specimen cutters are used with a hydraulic press, manual press, or pneumatic press that provides the downward force to punch cleanly through the material. Finetech Engineering manufactures all three types of presses. We can provide a combined quote for cutters and press together.
This depends on usage volume and material hardness. A simple check: if your tensile specimens consistently break at the same location near the edge of the gauge section rather than in the centre, the cutter may be dull or nicked. We recommend inspection every 6–12 months. Finetech offers re-sharpening and re-certification services.
Yes. ASTM D638 (for plastics) and ASTM D412 (for rubber) specify different specimen dimensions. You will need separate dumbbell cutters for each standard. However, some cutters (like round cutters for compression set) may serve both if the dimensional requirements match. Contact us and we will help you build the right set.
Both. Finetech Engineering manufactures laboratory testing equipment (MFI Testers, UTMs, Impact Testers, Humidity Chambers, and more), specimen cutters and moulds, and industrial knives and blades. This means we understand the entire testing workflow — from specimen preparation to final test results.
